MSSWA Region 8 Spring Meeting 2025
Teaming up: Supporting Social Workers through a Behavior Lens
We are excited to have Jennifer LF Modeen and Gabby Wavra, Behavior Supports Specialists from the Area Special Education Cooperative, join us to share for our spring meeting.
In this session, we’ll explore the unique role of "Behavior Support Specialist" and how it complements and strengthens the work of school social workers—particularly in the context of Tier 3 behavioral interventions. Drawing on our experiences in this evolving role, we'll share what we’ve learned so far, including strategies that can help build confidence and create space for social workers to speak up about what their students need.
We’ll look at ways to support social workers and teachers in navigating challenging behaviors, while also exploring how we can encourage open communication and collaboration. Expect a mix of discussion, pair-and-share time, and practical takeaways—including some helpful reading materials and online resources—to keep the conversation going beyond this session.
It’s all about teaming up and making sure everyone feels empowered to advocate for students and the support they deserve. The goal is to walk away with new ideas and a stronger sense of how we can team up to support students (and each other) even better.
We can’t wait to see you there!! Join us for fun and great prizes!
