Michelle Zehnder Fischer has been the Nicollet County Attorney for the past seven years. Michelle obtained her law degree from William Mitchell College of Law. She served on the William Mitchell Law Review as an associate editor and participate in trial advocacy competitions. Michelle worked for just over a year as a judicial law clerk in Mower and Dodge Counties. In 1995, Michelle joined the law firm of Mackenzie and Gustafson and the Nicollet County Attorney’s Office. Michelle’s private practice focused primarily on family law as well as litigation, debt collection, and personal injury. As an Assistant County Attorney, she handled all domestic abuse, sexual abuse, and child abuse cases; all child protection cases; and child support cases. Michelle became the Chief Deputy Attorney in 2001. Michelle participates in the Nicollet County Child Protection Team that reviews cases to identify families needing assistance and to provide solutions to those families. She focused on creating a response system that intervenes when school absences first start to occur.
